This happens because most article directories are setup to promote the author accounts themselves, including their articles. If you hire an SEO company, or submission specialist to submit articles on your behalf but allow them to use their own author accounts, they will benefit from the promotion of their authors accounts while using your articles. For instance, most article directories add a link to the authors profile section which details all of the authors information, company information, web site, and articles posted. If you allow an article submission company to submit articles while using their own author account, visitors will be able to view their author account, not yours. Thus promoting the article submission companies services, not yours.
Of course you will receive traffic to your site through the link within the articles... won't you?
Being the chief editor for Article99.com, I've seen countless articles with an author bio that states "I am an seo expert". That's it. The reason you see this style of author resource box is because the author is and seo expert submitting articles on their clients behalf.
But what about the client?
Great question. Within the article, there may be a couple of links pointing to the clients web site. The problem with that is the fact that some article directories don't allow active links within the body of the article, only within the author resource box.

Not at all. In fact, I personally know many owners of SEO companies that have only the clients interest in mind and don't care for self-exposure. They even go as far as giving their clients the option of a discount for allowing them to promote their article submission services while submit articles for them.
WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR WITHIN ARTICLE SUBMISSION SERVICES?
1) Personal Author Accounts Setup:
If your new to this industry, make sure that the article submission company you hire registers a brand new author account for each directory they have within their list. While doing this, make sure that they setup each author account with YOUR contact information, YOUR author picture, YOUR directory listings, YOUR blog information, and so on. Some article directories allow you to promote your business within different areas as well as submitting articles online. You might as well profit from this free promotion while getting your author accounts set up for you.
2) Excel Spreadsheet With Your Usernames & Passwords:
Once setup, make sure to get an Excel Spreadsheet or something equivalent detailing the usernames & passwords of each article directory setup by the article submission company.
3) Use Your Own Email Setup By Your Company:
While registering your authors accounts, you will need an active email account for all article directory "registry" confirmations. Make sure to use an email account within your own company, not from the article submission service company. Don't forget to setup a specific email account for this process (articles@your_site.com).
Article directories will send you a confirmation email every time one of your articles are approved online. This email account will give you a record of your progress. You will be able to track; how many article directories required a confirmation, and how many times your articles were approved within these directories.

4) Make Sure The Author Bio Has Your Information, Not Theirs!
Again, some article submission services (A.S.S.) promote their services within the author resource box while submitting your article. Make sure to ask, tell, or deny the company that right to promote their services as well. ALWAYS get it in writing. Some articles have the power to deliver traffic for many years after they've been submitted online. Don't give up crucial promotion within your articles by giving up the author resource box.
I would double check some of your articles and make sure that your company information is properly displayed within your author resource box, not just within the article body. Like I mentioned above, not all article directories allow active links, or company contact information within the article body.
5) Go Back And Search For Your Articles!
An easy way to find out how many article directories actually list your articles online is by searching for your article title within Google.com. Go to Google.com and within brackets "Search For your Article Title". By doing this, you will perform a direct search for your article. Try not to perform this search the 1st day after your article has been submitted. Instead, try to perform this search about a month or two after thus allowing time for search engines to find your article within other web sites.
Give your articles time to populate online. Once populated, you can get an accurate sense of how many sites actually list your articles, and how well your hired article submission service company is working for you. If a hired service promises to submit to 100 directories, expect more than 60% to show up within your search. If your search results only show you about 10-20%, it may be time to hire someone else. On the other hand, if your search results show you more than expected, keep using the same service. This means that your articles are being reprinted on other web sites which is exactly what you want to happen.
6) Ask For Progress Reports:
Don't forget to ask for progress reports on your articles. Try to get a confirmation when your article is fully submitted to all the directories within the article submission companies list, and try to see if they keep a record of all successful submissions for each article they submit for you.
Again, just another tool for you to keep track of the progress from the company you hire to promote your business online.

Make sure that YOUR company gets all the benefits, and not just half of the promotional benefits.
